End-Of-Life Care Consultation Symposium
Birth, ageing, illness and death are stages in life that everyone has to go through. To most people in Hong Kong, while we acknowledge our top position in the world's life expectancy ranking, death is a taboo and we avoid talking about it as much as we can. Even when death is anticipated, most people prefer not to touch it, missing the opportunity to plan for a “good death”.
Golden Age Foundation strives to develop Hong Kong into a Smart Ageing City in Asia. Especially in the area of wellness and healthcare, we continuously encourage ageing in place and end-of-life care at each edition of the Golden Age Expo & Summit.
The Hong Kong SAR Government Food & Health Bureau launched a public consultation concerning “end-of-life care legislative proposals on advance directives and dying in place” on 6 September 2019. It proposed to codify the current common law position in respect of an advance directive and to increase the safeguards attached to it. This public consultation will be closed by December 16.
In view of this, we have invited Dr. Fan Ning and a number of professionals and academics to explore and analyse the implications of the proposals. We hope to make use of this opportunity to collect practical and feasible suggestions to be submitted to the Government.
